Colonels Fall on Senior Day vs Wentworth
Milton, MA - The Curry College men's lacrosse team fell to Wentworth, 19-8, in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field on Senior Day.
Before the game, the 2026 men's lacrosse senior class was recognized. The Seniors who were honored are: #0 Donovan Mawhinney, #1 Kai Johnson, #8 Kyle Bouley, #27 Niko DeCola, #33 Khai Baldwin, #34 Joey Pinto, #36 Nick Flanigan, and #91 Roosevelt McMillan.
Curry struck first just over a minute into the contest, as Nicholas Cole found the back of the net on an unassisted effort. After Wentworth responded with a pair of quick goals, Donovan Mawhinney ignited the Colonels with back-to-back tallies, the first coming off a feed from Blake Rothstein and the second assisted by Jed Cappuccino, giving Curry a 3-2 advantage midway through the opening quarter. Following a brief Wentworth surge, Cappuccino capped the first quarter scoring with a goal off a Mawhinney assist to keep Curry within one at 5-4.
Wentworth would build momentum in second quarter, scoring five consecutive goals to open up a 10-4 lead. Curry halted the run with another unassisted strike from Cole before Mawhinney netted his third goal of the game, assisted by Cappuccino, trimming the deficit to 10-6 heading into halftime.
Curry continued to battle in the third quarter, as Cappuccino opened the scoring with an unassisted goal to make it 10-7. However, Wentworth responded with three straight goals to extend its lead to 13-7 entering the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, Wentworth pulled away with six goals, while Curry managed one final tally in the closing seconds as Rothstein scored unassisted.
Mawhinney led the Colonels offensively with three goals and one assist, while Cappuccino added two goals and two assists. Cole also finished with two goals, and Rothstein contributed a goal and an assist.
Defensively, Niko DeCola made 22 saves in net for Curry, facing a heavy offensive attack throughout the contest.
