Men's Soccer Shut Out by Conference Foe Endicott College, 2-0
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Endicott College, 2-0, Saturday morning at the Walter M. Katz Field. The Colonels fell to 6-7-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the CCC. The Gulls improved to 8-7 and 3-3 in the CCC.
Endicott controlled most of the first half, holding a slight advantage in most stats. Both teams were able to remain scoreless between the pipes over the 45 minutes. The Colonels senior netminder Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.) made nine saves to keep the game tied at zero. The Gulls sophomore netminder Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) made just two stops.
Curry had seven shots, two on goal, two fouls and one corner. Endicott had 15 shots, nine on net, four fouls and three corners.
The winning goal of the game came in the second stanza. The Gulls got on the board at the 30:16 minute mark. Junior Abdulla Al Khalifa (Riffa, Bahrain) received a through pass from teammate senior Alex Elia (Somers, Conn.). Khalifa was wide open in front of the net and one-timed the ball past Barber. Just 5:59 later the Gulls sealed the win with their second tally on the day. Junior Connor Gibbs (Westborough, Mass.) was credited with the goal while senior Brett Longobucco (Torrington, Conn.) earned the assist. Longobucco collected a loose ball inside the six-meter and sent it to Gibbs who tapped it into the lower left corner of the net. The Colonels fought hard and were able to post nine solid shots but Peluso turned away five for the shutout. Endicott only outshot the Colonels 11-9 in the frame.
The Colonels finished with 16 shots, seven on net, six fouls, four corners and three offsides. The Gulls finished with 26 shots, 15 on net, eight fouls, eight corners and five offsides.
For Curry, Barber finished with 13 saves in the loss. Peluso made seven saves in net for the Gulls in the win.
Curry returns to action on Wednesday, October 23 when they travel to Roger Williams for a 7:00 p.m. match-up. Endicott will host Nichols College on Wednesday, October 23 for a 4:00 p.m. game start.
