Franklin, MA - The Curry Men's Volleyball team swept their Saturday tri-match at Dean, winning over King's (PA) in four sets, and the hosts Dean in five. The Colonels are now 6-6, and have already passed their win total from last year.
Match One vs King's (PA)
The Colonels beat the Monarchs 19-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-22. After dropping the first set, the Colonels bounced back to win the next three. They gradually built a lead in the second set, and used an 11-1 run to end the third set. The fourth set saw the Colonels hold a large lead through a majority of it, with a late run by King's making the score closer than it really was.
Chris Milfort led the team with 17 kills, and Michael Swanigan was not shabby either with nine. Nyko Whitaker set them up with 38 set assists. Milfort posted a double-double with 11 digs, the second most on the team, just behind Nicholas Watson's 25.
Match Two vs Dean
The Colonels would stay on the court, playing a second consecutive match, and winning it in five sets by a score of 25-21, 20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11. After winning the first set, fatigue seemed to set in for the Colonels, as they would drop the next two, putting themselves just one set away from defeat. But they found a second wind, taking the fourth set 25-22, despite trailing by as many as four in the set. That sent the match to a fifth and final set, which the Colonels controlled from the start, and won 15-11 to win the match.
Just like the match before, Chris Milfort did most of the damage, this time putting up 20 kills. Jayden Garcia also contributed with nine. Also similar to the first match was Nyko Whitaker being the middleman with 44 assists. Milfort posted his second double-double of the day with 12 digs, only behind Braden Alpert's 17.
Up Next - The Colonels will look to continue their win streak on Wednesday when they host Regis at 6pm.
