Nashua, NH - The Curry men's lacrosse team opened its 2026 campaign with an 11-3 road loss to Rivier on Saturday afternoon at Joanne Merrill Field. With the setback, the Colonels fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Raiders improve to 2-0.
After a scoreless first quarter in which both defenses settled in early, Rivier broke through in the second period with a five-goal surge. Tyler Zehr opened the scoring at 9:19, and Sean Callinan followed just under two minutes later. Aiden Conley added back-to-back unassisted tallies, sandwiching a man-up goal from Andrew Nee, to give the Raiders a 5-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Raiders continued to build momentum in the third quarter, adding three more goals. Conor Walsh struck at 8:37 before Conley converted on the extra-man opportunity at 6:59. Callinan capped the period with his second goal of the day, extending the lead to 8-0 entering the final frame.
The Colonels finally found their rhythm offensively in the fourth quarter, as they matched Rivier with three scores. Kyle Bouley put Curry on the board at 9:59 with an unassisted goal. After Rivier answered with scores from Liam Conley and Colin Foley, Curry capitalized on a man-up opportunity when Donovan Mawhinney buried an unassisted goal at 3:41. In the closing seconds, Jed Cappuccino connected off a feed from Max Ritt with time winding down to round out the scoring at 11-3.
Cappuccino led Curry with five shots and three on goal, while Nicholas Cole added a team-high six shots. Bouley contributed two ground balls and caused two turnovers. In the faceoff circle, Nick Flanigan went 4-for-9, and Logan DeVeau won two draws. Defensively, Matt Pfister collected five ground balls, and Joey Pinto added four.
Goalkeeper Niko DeCola made 20 saves over 60 minutes of action, facing 31 shots on goal. Rivier's Jake Lydon played the majority of the time in net for the Raiders making seven saves.
