Providence, RI - The Curry College women's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales (RI), 22-3, on Saturday morning in conference play.
Curry (4-9, 1-6 CNE) faced an early deficit as Johnson & Wales (7-6, 5-3 CNE) controlled the opening half, scoring nine goals in the first quarter and adding five more in the second to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
The Colonels found some offensive rhythm in the third quarter, highlighted by a strong individual performance from Ella Palanza. The junior netted all three of Curry's goals in the frame, including two assisted by Grace Grosso, to account for the team's scoring on the day.
Despite the momentum in the third, Johnson & Wales responded with four goals of its own in the period and added four more in the fourth quarter to secure the 22-3 victory.
Palanza led Curry with three goals on four shots, while Grosso contributed two assists. Phoebe Sartory added two shots on goal, and the Colonels totaled 11 shots in the contest.
In goal, Alexa Puopolo made 12 saves while facing a high volume of shots, as Johnson & Wales held a 47-11 advantage in attempts. Curry also collected 13 ground balls, with contributions across the lineup.
