Bronxville, NY - The Curry Women's Volleyball team fell in both of their matches on Saturday, falling to Sarah Lawrence in four sets 25-14, 20-25, 25-10, 25-11, and to USJ in straight sets by a score of 25-20, 26-24, 25-11. The Colonels are now 2-6 on the season, while Sarah Lawrence is 3-4, and USJ is 2-7.
Match One vs Sarah Lawrence
The Gryphons jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first set, and never looked back, taking it 25-14. But the Colonels would bounce back with a 25-20 second set win. But that would be it, as Sarah Lawrence then cruised in the next two sets 25-10 and 25-11.
The Colonels were led on offense by Morgan Kramer's seven kills, just ahead of Kyla Martin's six. Also contributing with five kills was Meghan Abbott. Jasmyne Fillippini was running the offense, as she dished out 15 set assists. Defensively, the Colonels were led by Martin's 10 digs. Sonja Matheson and Kramer each had seven.
Match Two vs USJ
After the two teams went back and forth in the first set, the Colonels led 17-15. But a Blue Jays 6-0 run gave them the edge, and they would take the set 25-20. The Colonels fell behind in the second set 18-12, but used a 7-0 run to take the lead. But it would be short lived, as USJ took it 26-24, before cruising to a 25-11 third set win.
Just like in the first match Kramer led the way with five digs. Just behind her was Emma Hobart and Abbott with four each. Fillippini matched her total from the first match with 15 set assists, while also collecting eight digs. That was just behind Faith Edgehille, who led the team with nine digs.
Up Next - The Colonels will travel to Mass. Maritime on Thursday for a 7pm match.
